
’Cuse Ranked Tenth in NFHCA Preseason Poll

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – On the cusp of opening the 2024 season, Syracuse University field hockey was ranked 10th in the Penn Monto/NFHCA Preseason Coaches Poll. The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) announced its first poll of the year Tuesday morning.
Fresh off a third-straight NCAA Tournament Quarterfinal berth, Syracuse landed in the 10 spot with 512 total points. The Orange, who went 11-8 overall last fall, will face three of the top five teams in the preseason poll: No. 2 North Carolina with 899 points and 17 first-place votes, No. 3 Virginia with 783 points and a pair of top selections and No. 5 Duke, which garnered 714 points. Northwestern was the top pick with 918 points and 27 first-place votes, and No. 4 Maryland with 771 points and the two outstanding first-place nods.
Seven of the nine teams in the ACC were ranked this week: No. 2 North Carolina, No. 3 Virginia, No. 5 Duke, No. 7 Louisville, No. 10 Syracuse, No. 17 Boston College, and No. 18 Wake Forest.
All told, the Orange will face nearly half of the teams ranked in the preseason poll. In addition to the ACC slate, Syracuse takes on No. 14 Ohio State in its home opener on Sept. 8, No. 15 Princeton on Oct. 6, and No. 16 Penn State this Sunday, Sept. 1. Additionally, Syracuse most recently scrimmaged a Rutgers team ranked ninth in the preseason poll with 524 points.
Syracuse kicks off the 2024 season this weekend with a pair of matches in the Keystone State. Action begins Friday, August 30 with a 3 p.m. clash at Lock Haven, followed by a noon showdown at No. 16 Penn State on Sunday, Sept. 1.
