Orange Offense Erupts in Win Over Canisius
9/17/2024 10:44:00 PM | Men's Soccer
The Orange's five goals are the most they have scored in a campaign since Nov. 11, 2023, in an ACC win over NC State. The total surpassed the team's high of three scores in a contest this slate, which was recorded in a 3-0 win over Niagara (Aug. 25).
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The 'Cuse offense was clicking from the start, as just two and a half minutes into the contest Threadgold took a deep pass from Giona Leibold and sent it to the back of the net to give the Orange an early advantage.

The Orange hung on to their lead, taking four additional shots, before Cutler-DeJesus doubled the advantage with a header off a pass from Elton Chifamba.

In the game's 38th minute, Burko, who was celebrating his birthday, matched Syracuse's most goals in a game this campaign, perfectly placing a shot into the bottom right corner of the goal to make the Orange lead 3-0. Cutler-DeJesus added his third point of the night with an assist.

After 45 minutes of play, 'Cuse had net three goals on 14 shots, and had not allowed a single Canisius scoring attempt.
Scott helped keep the pressure on at the start of the second half, tapping a deflected pass from Threadgold into the goal, extending SU's lead to 4-0.

The Golden Griffins responded, however, with a goal in the 56th minute to close the gap to 4-1. The goal was one of just three shots allowed by the Syracuse defense throughout the contest.
With just under two minutes to play Gradus, who was making his first appearance of the season, drew a penalty in the box. The senior captain was given the chance to record the first goal of his career from the spot, and he did just that, burying the ball into the right side of the net to cap off the Orange's 5-1 win over Canisius.
