
Field Hockey Slotted 15th in Weekly Poll

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Entering the fourth week of the 2024 season, Syracuse University field hockey remained in the top 15 this week, picking up 300 points to rank 15th overall in the Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I Coaches Poll. The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) announced its weekly rankings Tuesday morning.
Despite going 2-0 last weekend, Syracuse (4-1) picked up an even 300 points, 69 points ahead of its November 1 opponent, Boston College. Northwestern remained at the top with 954 points and 43 first-place votes. North Carolina, which Syracuse faces Friday night, was second with 929 points and six top selections, with Virginia ranking third with 843 points. Iowa and Duke rounded out the top five with 722 and 705 points, respectively.
Six ACC teams were ranked this week; in addition to No. 15 Syracuse, No. 2 North Carolina, and No. 5 Duke, Louisville was ranked 12th with 457 points while Boston College stepped into the number 16 spot with 231 points.
Nine Syracuse opponents were in the top 20 this week: No. 2 North Carolina, No. 3 Virginia, No. 5 Duke, No. 6 Ohio State, No. 12 Louisville, No. 14 UConn, No. 16 Boston College, No. 18 Princeton, and No. 20 Penn State.
The Orange head for Chapel Hill for a Friday night showdown at No. 2 North Carolina. Game time against the reigning national champion Tar Heels is set for 5 p.m. at Karen Shelton Stadium on ACC Network Extra. On Sunday, Syracuse heads to Farmville, Virginia for an 11:30 a.m. clash at Longwood University on ESPN+.
