Volleyball Secures 10 On All-ACC Academic Team

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Ten members of the Syracuse University volleyball team have earned a spot on the All-ACC Academic Volleyball Team, eclipsing a program record that was set last year.
Making the team for the Orange was Ashlee Gnau, Mira Ledermueller, Sydney Moore, Anastasiia Nikolnikova, Ava Palm, Greta Schlichter, Nikki Shimao, Veronica Sierzant, Sydnie Waller and Sara Wasiakowska. The ACC announced its honorees on Thursday.
To be eligible for the squad, student-athletes must maintain a 3.0 grade-point average in the fall 2024 semester and have a 3.0 cumulative point average over their academic career. The student-athletes must have also competed in at least 50-percent of the team's contests during the season.
Gnau, a freshman defensive specialist/libero, is majoring in Social Work. She racked up 1.56 digs per set in her 24 appearances on the season, six of which were starts.
Making her second straight appearance on the All-ACC Academic Team, Ledermueller is majoring in Psychology and Neuroscience. The sophomore setter ranked No. 2 on the Orange this season with 6.69 assists per set.
Moore, a graduate student studying Marketing, made 24 starts as a middle blocker for the Orange this season. She averaged 1.40 kills per set and ranked No. 2 on the team with 94 blocks.
Nikolnikova is studying Sociology, Law, Society and Policy at Syracuse. The junior middle blocker averaged 1.66 kills per set and paced Syracuse with 99 blocks in her debut season with the Orange.
Palm led Syracuse with 371 kills on the season, tallying eight double-doubles to lead the Orange. The outside hitter, who is studying Project Management as a graduate student, also led Syracuse with 2.27 digs per set on the campaign.
Schlichter is also making her second consecutive appearance on the All-ACC Academic Team following a sophomore season that saw the defensive specialist/libero average 2.17 digs per set. The Biomedical Engineering and Neuroscience major appeared in 108 of Syracuse's 116 sets on the season.
Shimao, a team captain studying Applied Data Science as a graduate student, averaged 1.54 digs in her 71 sets of action this season. The defensive specialist/libero made 19 straight starts at libero to close the campaign.
Sierzant is the third Syracuse player to earn a spot on the All-ACC Academic Team for a second straight season. The sophomore setter majoring in Finance led the Orange with 7.49 assists per set this season and racked up seven double-doubles.
Waller, a Public Relations major, appeared in 18 matches this season as a sophomore. The right-side hitter averaged 1.48 kills per set in 50 sets played.
Wasiakowska, a graduate student studying Intercollegiate Athletic Advising & Support, rounds out Syracuse's honorees. The right-side hitter averaged 1.56 kills per set and tallied 58 blocks this season.
