
Kelley Sets Syracuse Career Saves Record Against Mercyhurst

ERIE, Pa. - Syracuse University women's ice hockey lost at Mercyhurst on Friday night. The Orange rallied back from a 2-0 deficit in the first period at the Mercyhurst Ice Center to tie the game 2-2 after the second. Nea Tervonen scored the first goal, assisted by Jackson Kinsler and graduate Student Bryn Saarela tallied the second, assisted by Charli Kettyle and Jessica Cheung. Syracuse (12-21-0, 10-9-0 AHA) will play the Lakers (18-13-2, 13-5-1 AHA) in the second game of the series on Saturday at 1 pm.
Goalkeeper Allie Kelley had a standout performance between the pipes, making 29 saves across 60 minutes. In the process, she set a new Syracuse career record for all-time career saves, bringing her total to 2,168. Entering the game in third place, the East Berne, New York native now stands in first, surpassing the previous record holders, Jenn Gilligan (2,156) and Kallie Billadeau (2,161).
Mercyhurst struck first with an even strength goal by Marielle Parks from Megan Mckay and Mary Sweetapple. Chantal Ste-Croix also found the net late in the first. Thea Johansson registered the final three goals for the Lakers, completing a hat trick along the way. Mercyhurst goalie Magdalena Luggin tallied 26 saves, including four in the first period, 10 in the second period, and 12 in the third.
