NEWARK, Del. - The Syracuse softball team (16-3) closed out the Blue Hen Invitational with two big wins on the final day, rolling past Morgan State, 15-2, before securing a 4-3 walk-off victory over Quinnipiac (4-7) on a Taylor Posner RBI single Saturday at Delaware Diamond. The Orange finished the tournament with four wins, matching the 2011 squad for the best 19-game start in program history at 16-3.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST MORGAN STATE:
The Bears struck first, scoring two runs in the bottom of the second on a two-run double. The Orange answered in the fourth with a six-run inning, taking advantage of four Morgan State errors and five hits. Madison Knight started the rally with a double, followed by Posner reaching on an error that brought Knight home. Tessa Galipeau added an RBI single to score Posner, and Gabby Lantier's bunt single, combined with an error, allowed Galipeau to cross the plate. Madelyn Lopez and Angie Ramos each chipped in RBI singles before Kelly Breen capped the inning with a sacrifice fly, giving Syracuse a 6-2 lead.
Â
Galipeau added to the Orange's lead in the fifth inning with a solo home run, extending the advantage to 7-2. Lopez then drove in another run in the sixth with an RBI single, scoring Jadyn Burney to make it 8-2.
Â
Syracuse capped off the victory with a dominant seventh inning, erupting for seven runs on six hits. Kaimi Tulua and Breen led the charge with two-run doubles, while Burney, Lopez, and Ramos each added an RBI to seal the win over the Bears.
Â
On the mound, Knight went the distance for her sixth win of the season. The junior allowed just two runs early in the game, before shutting down the Bears offense. She gave up four hits but struck out seven.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST QUINNIPIAC:
The Bobcats plated a run in each of the first two innings to take an early lead, but the Orange started their comeback in the bottom of the third when Breen delivered an RBI single to score Burney.
Â
Quinnipiac stalled Syracuse's comeback attempt, stranding the bases loaded in the bottom of the fourth. The Bobcats then extended their lead with an RBI single in the top of the fifth.
Â
With their backs against the wall in the bottom of the seventh, Laila Morales-Alves delivered in the clutch, lining a two-run single to center field to tie the game at three. Moments later, Posner sealed the comeback with a walk-off RBI single, lifting Syracuse to a 4-3 victory to close out the Blue Hen Invite.

OF NOTE:Â
- Syracuse's win over Morgan State marked the first time that the Orange had at least three players with at least three hits with Galipeau (4), Lopez (3), and Ramos (3) charging the 'Cuse offense. The last time the Orange had this happen was during the 2023 season against Lafayette (Apr. 22, 2023).
- Galipeau had a career performance against the Bears with a personal-best four hits in the game. One of her four hits was a solo home run, her second of the season and 10th of her career. The senior also added a pair of runs and a pair of RBIs in the win. She is the second player to have a four-hit game this season, after Ramos did it on Feb. 15 against LIU.
- Lopez finished the day with a pair of multi-hit games to move to 13 games this season with at least two hits. The junior also added three runs batted in the morning game against Morgan State.
- Ramos had a three-hit outing against the Bears, her second game of the weekend with more than one hit. It was also her seventh multi-hit game of the season.
- Burney stole a pair of bases in the win over Morgan State, bringing her to seven on the season – a team best.
- Breen had a three-RBI performance against Morgan State, her third game of the year with at least two runs batted in. She also added a RBI in the loss to Quinnipiac.
- Tulua provided a pair of runs against the Bears with her two-RBI double. The double helped her to her third-career multi-RBI game.
- Morales-Alves provided a two-RBI performance against the Bobcats, keeping the Orange alive with her two-run single in the bottom of the seventh. The game was her third of the season with at least two runs batted in.
- Posner had her first multi-hit game of the season, walking off Quinnipiac with her second hit in four at-bats against the Bobcats. She gave the Orange their second walk-off win of the season, after Syracuse walked off Utah Valley last weekend at the Georgia Classic.
- Knight pitched her sixth complete game of the year to earn her sixth win. The junior leads the Orange with 58 strikeouts in nine appearances.
- Julianna Verni came in the pitch the final six innings against the Bobcats, earning her seventh win of the campaign.
- Syracuse's 15 runs on 17 hits marked its season-best in both starts through the first 19 games of the season. The last time the Orange scored 15+ runs in a game was on Feb. 11, 2022, when they put up 22 against Southern. 'Cuse also recorded a game with at least 15 team hits for the first time since last season, when it had 16 at Pittsburgh on April 20, 2024.
- After the first 19 games of the season, Syracuse enters ACC play next weekend with a record of 16-3, matching the 2011 squad for the best record through 19 games in program history.Â
- With the win over the Bears, 'Cuse moves to 3-0 in the lifetime series with Morgan State, winning all three games by an average of 10 runs.
- The win over Quinnipiac moves Syracuse to 3-1 in the all time series between programs.
