CHARLOTTE, N.C. – For a second time this season, Syracuse University standout Bo van Kempen was named ACC Offensive Player of the Week. The Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) announced its weekly award winners Tuesday afternoon.
Van Kempen was previously named ACC Offensive Player of Week on September 2.
The weekly honor comes after the second-year graduate student deposited four goals, including her third hat trick of the season on Sunday at Lafayette. Van Kempen scored the overtime game-winning goal on the road at No. 11 Princeton on Friday, converting the first of her three penalty strokes over the weekend. The Zevenaar, Netherlander is a clean 5-for-5 on penalty strokes this season and is 7-for-7 on her Syracuse career.
As a back, van Kempen helped limit opponent chances as No. 11 Princeton and Lafayette combined for just two goals. The 1-0 win at Princeton was the third clean sheet for the Orange this season. All told, the Tigers and Leopards got just seven shots on goal while combining for only seven penalty corners.
North Carolina goalkeeper Merritt Skubisz was named ACC Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday.
Syracuse, which moved up to fourth in this week's NFHCA Coaches Poll, takes on a pair of top 20 opponents at home this weekend. The Orange open a five-game homestand on Friday with a 5 p.m. showdown against No. 20 Wake Forest before a top-five showdown on Sunday against No. 3 Virginia with a noon start. Both games will be carried on ACC Network Extra.
