Syracuse welcomes Stanford (15-4, 4-2 ACC) to the JMA Wireless Dome on Sunday afternoon for the first time in program history in a nationally televised ACC Network showdown at 2 p.m.. The Orange enter riding a two-game winning streak after surviving a historic triple-overtime thriller against California on Wednesday night and defeating the Golden Bears 90-87.
The first 500 fans at the game can claim a free Syracuse women's basketball t-shirt at Gate B, courtesy of Learfield and Syracuse Athletics sponsors. Doors open 60 minutes before tip-off.Â
The Cardinal makes their inaugural trip to Central New York leading the all-time series 2-0, having defeated Syracuse 77-59 in their first meeting in 2019 when Stanford was ranked No. 2 in the country, and earning a 79-58 victory in Palo Alto last season. Now conference rivals in the expanded ACC, both programs sit near the top of the league standings with Syracuse fourth at 5-2 and Stanford sixth at 4-2.
Fresh off Wednesday's marathon victory, the Orange showcased their depth and resilience as four players scored 18 or more points—the first time since February 19, 2017. Freshman Uche Izoje continues to dominate, leading the ACC in blocks per game (3.0) while ranking second in field goal percentage (.578). The four-time ACC Rookie of the Week has recorded seven double-doubles this season and is emerging as a legitimate ACC Freshman of the Year candidate.
Captains Sophie Burrows, Dominique Darius, and Laila Phelia provide veteran leadership for the Orange. Burrows has been scorching from beyond the arc, averaging 15.0 points over her last five games while shooting 47.1% from three-point range. Darius delivered the game-winning three-pointer against California with three seconds remaining in the third overtime, while Phelia exploded for a career-high 38 points at Virginia a week ago.
Syracuse looks to defend the JMA Wireless Dome, where they're 11-2 this season, and earn their first-ever victory over the Cardinal. With ESPN bracketologist Charlie Creme projecting the Orange as a 9-seed for the NCAA Tournament, every conference win carries significant postseason implications.
