ORANGE UPDATE:Â
Syracuse went 3-2, splitting their series with Binghamton, falling to South Carolina and winning their series against Winthrop at the Gamecock Invitational last weekend.  Madison Knight secured the first home run of the season against South Carolina and hit another one over the fence against Winthrop. Kaimi Tulua also added a home run to the score sheet in the team's extra inning win against the Eagles on Sunday. Also in the batter's box was Jadyn Burney whose walk-off single against Binghamton last Saturday gave SU their first win of the season.
Â
In the circle, SU had a combined total of 30 strikeouts and only allowed 40 hits. Jackie Pengel led the pitchers in ERA with only a 2.52 allowance, while Madison Knight led in WHIP with 1.62.
Â
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
'Cuse's first game in Texas will be the first matchup with Abilene Christian in program history. The Wildcats finished the season last year with a 15-38 overall record and an 11-13 conference record. Out of those 15 wins, only four were out of conference and they lost in the first round of the WAC tournament to Utah Valley.
Â
Ranked No. 2, the Bevo Classic will mark the fourth and fifth meetings of SU and Texas. Their last meeting was in 2013 where Syracuse fell 2-1. Texas finished last season ranked No. 1 by all polls with a 56–12 record and defeated Texas Tech to secure the Women's College World Series trophy for the first time in program history. The team has also added Kaiah Altmeyer from Arizona to their roster this season.
Â
Saturday's game against NIU will mark the team's third meeting overall, with the Orange securing the last win back in 2001. The Huskies had an overall record of 21-30 and a conference record of 14-13 and ended their season in the first round of the MAC tournament after losses to Ohio University and Akron.
Â
Ohio State received votes this week in the NFCA/GoRout poll and will face off against SU for the sixth time this Sunday. The last game between the two teams was in 2016 where Syracuse took home the win. Ohio State finished last season with a 45-14-1 record and fell in the first round of the NCAA Regional.
