Natalie Barrett joined the Syracuse field hockey staff in August 2011. In two seasons on head coach Ange Bradley's staff, she has helped guide the Orange to a combined 38-7 record, including an 11-1 mark in BIG EAST play, a BIG EAST regular season title (2012), a BIG EAST Tournament title (2011), two NCAA Tournament appearances and a Final Four (2012).
Barrett came to Syracuse after her first season as the assistant coach at Christopher Newport University, where she helped lead the Captains to the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament. Barrett received her Bachelor of Business Administration from Kent State University in 2009 and continued at Kent State to receive her Masters of Arts in Exercise/Leisure and Sport in 2010.
“Natalie Barrett is a hidden coaching talent. Her determination and work ethic is second to none, she possesses the intangible traits that will enable her to be a successful coach at the Division I level. The experience she has gained coaching at the Division III level has taught her all aspects of running a field hockey program,” Bradley said upon hiring Barrett. “I began my coaching career at the Division III level so I understand what is involved to be a successful coach at that level. I am honored to have her in our program as I know she will be a successful coach and help our offense tremendously.”
She started 47 of the 60 games in which she appeared, scoring 17 goals and adding eight assists while at Kent State. As captain her senior season in 2008, Barrett led the Golden Flashes to the MAC Conference regular season and tournament titles.
“I'm thrilled to be joining the Syracuse field hockey team and such a prestigious University both athletically and academically,” Barrett said upon her hiring. “I am very grateful to Ange Bradley and the Syracuse administration for providing me with this opportunity and I am very excited start to working with the team to help them continue with their success both on and off the field.”
Barrett holds a USA Field Hockey Level II Certification. She is also a USA Field Hockey Level 1 Futures Site DIrector and U16/U19 National Futures Coach.
Barrett, a native of Glasgow, Scotland, was a member of the Scotland National U16 and U18 squads before coming to Kent State. She was also selected and played for the Under-15, 16 and 18 District squads.
