Senior Year (2011): Became the fourth Orange defender, and the first since John Glatzel in 2002, to win the William C. Schmeisser Award as the nation’s most outstanding defenseman … Named to the USILA All-America First Team for the second straight year … Tewaaraton Award nominee and All-BIG EAST First Team selection … Started all 15 games he played on close defense … Missed the Princeton and Providence games due to injury … Part of a Syracuse unit that ranked third nationally in scoring defense (6.90 goals per game) and set a school record for man-down defense efficiency, leading the nation at 81.7 percent … Recorded 29 ground balls and ranked third on the team with 22 caused turnovers … Named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll on Feb. 21 after holding Denver’s Alex Demopoulos to one assist in a 13-7 Orange victory … Was selected as the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week (May 2) after tying the SU single-game record for caused turnovers (6) and holding Notre Dame leading scorer Sean Rogers to one goal in an 11-8 win over the top-ranked Irish … Recorded a season-best five ground balls and had four caused turnovers against St. John’s … Held Johns Hopkins attackman Chris Boland scoreless and collected four ground balls in SU’s 5-4 double-overtime win against the Blue Jays … Shut out Siena’s Bryan Neufeld in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament, ending Neufeld’s nation-leading 52-game point streak.
Junior Year (2010): Named to the USILA All-America First Team and the All-BIG EAST First Team … Started 12 games after missing the first three due to injury … Part of a Syracuse unit that led the nation in scoring defense (7.4 goals per game) … Collected 32 ground balls and was second on the team with 22 caused turnovers … Ranked 14th nationally in caused turnovers per game (1.83) … Tied his season high with three caused turnovers, including one that helped set up Chris Daniello’s game-winner at Cornell … Recovered a season-best five ground balls and matched his season high with three caused turnovers against Albany … Held Villanova leading scorer Kevin Cunningham without a point in a 20-6 SU victory … Named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week (April 5) and to the ThunderBay/Inside Lacrosse Team of the Week (April 6) for his performances against the Great Danes and Wildcats … Against Providence, matched his season best with five ground balls and his season high with three forced turnovers … Also had three caused turnovers and four ground balls at St. John’s.
Sophomore Year (2009): USILA Honorable Mention All-American … Started all 18 games on close defense … One of seven players to start every game … Part of an SU defense that ranked fourth nationally in scoring defense (7.39 goals per game) … Finished third on the team, and first among all close defenders, with 53 ground balls … Had at least one ground ball in 16 of the team’s 18 contests, including a season-best six against Binghamton … Recorded five ground balls at Georgetown, versus Colgate, Princeton at the Inside Lacrosse Big City Classic, and Maryland in the NCAA quarterfinals … Topped 100 ground balls for his career in SU's game against the Terps.
Team USA (Summer 2008): Member of the U.S. Under-19 Team that won the gold medal at the 2008 U-19 International Lacrosse Federation (ILF) World Championship in Coquitlam, British Columbia … Anchored a U.S. defense that held four of its seven opponents to fewer than 10 goals and three of its foes to five goals or less, including the first shutout in U.S. U-19 history as the Americans defeated Japan, 27-0.
Freshman Year (2008 at Villanova): All-Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) First Team … CAA All-Rookie Team honoree … Only freshman in the CAA to be a first-team all-conference choice … Started all 15 games on defense for the Wildcats … Led the team with 53 ground balls … Was 17-of-39 (.436) at the faceoff X … Picked up at least four ground balls on nine different occasions, including a career-high eight against Notre Dame … Had four ground balls in a 7-4 win against Towson … Picked up four ground balls and won 6-of-11 faceoffs in an 11-10 win at Robert Morris.
