Orangewomen Row Into 11th Place At the Head of the Charles

BOSTON — The Syracuse University women's rowing team had a boat finish 11th in the championship eight race at the Head of the Charles, the world's largest regatta held on the Charles River in Boston, on Sunday, October 21.
SU's championship eight boat featured tri-captain Rachael Kirchhoff (Juneau, AK/ Juneau- Douglas) in the five seat and senior Alicea Kochis (Naugatuck, CT/ Naugatuck) in the six seat. The Orangewomen crossed the finish line in 16:54.22. USRowing won the event with a time of 16:01.69. Fifty-three crews competed in the championship eight race.
SU's youth four placed second in 18:59.78, just more than a second behind the winner, Princeton. Makiko Muraoka (San Mateo, CA) coxed the boat, while Kim Garvey (Liverpool, NY) served as the stroke.
Syracuse's championship four placed18th in the race of 30 crews. Heather DiLoreto (East Amherst, NY/ Mercyhurst Prep) coxed the Orange's entry into the championship four race at the Charles. SU's boat finished in 19:28.30, while a boat from Germany won the event in 18:22.85.
The Orangewomen's next race is Sunday, October 27, in Philadelphia at the Head of the Schuylkill.
