Syracuse's varsity eight defeated Miami with a time of 6:38.5 on the 2,000-meter course. The Hurricanes crossed the finish line in 6:58.2. Against Central Florida, the Orangewomen were first in 6:49.6 while UCF was second in 7:10.0. Senior Erin Gallagher (Upper Darby, PA/Archbishop Pendergast) served as the varsity eight?s coxswain while Jillian Kott (Roundhill, PA/Kent School) served as the stroke.
SU's junior varsity eight also won two races, both by more than 20 seconds. The Orangewomen finished first against Miami with a time of 6:59.8, while Miami was second in 7:25.5. Syracuse also defeated Central Florida with a time of 7:05.4. The Knights finished the race in a time of 7:35.3. The coxswain for the junior varsity eight was senior Heather DiLoreto (East Amherst, NY/Mercyhurst Prep) and the stroke was junior Seana Miller (West Redding, CT/Joel Barlow HS).
In addition, SU's varsity four and novice eight boats won two races, while the novice four defeated Miami and the 2nd novice eight defeated Navy and Central Florida.
"It was a good day for us," head coach Kris Sanford said. "It was a good way to start the season."
The Orangewomen will be in action at Onondaga Lake on Saturday, March 30 when they host Boston University and Clemson.
