
Orangewomen Lacrosse Wins Second Straight Against UMass, 13-5

AMHERST, MA - Jessica Trombley (Kueka Park, NY/Penn Yan Academy) tied a career-high with three goals to lead Syracuse women’s lacrosse to a 13-5 victory against the University of Massachusetts on Sunday afternoon at Richard F. Garber Field.
Syracuse improves to 4-2 on the season, while UMass stands at 4-2 overall.
Syracuse opened the scoring with a goal by Carrie Soults (Washington, DC/Georgetown Day School) from junior Kim Wayne (Scarsdale, NY/Scarsdale) five minutes into the game. The Orangewomen extended the lead to 3-0 on a two-goal burst from senior Devon Baer (Norristown, PA/Plymouth-Whitemarsh) early in the first half.
After the Minutewomen scored to put UMass on the board, the Orangewomen responded with five unanswered goals. Sophomore Leigh-Ann Zimmer (Farmingdale, NY/Farmingdale) scored on a free possession with one second left in the first half to five Syracuse a 9-2 lead at intermission.
Syracuse opened the second half with a pair of goals by senior tri-captain Erica Mathewson (Syracuse, NY/West Genesee) followed by goals by Trombley and junior Erin MacDonald (Syracuse, NY/Henninger) to take a 13-2 lead. The Minutewomen scored three goals late in the game, but Syracuse’s early tallies helped seal the win.
Syracuse returns home to play Colgate on Wednesday, March 27 at 5:30 p.m. in a SU lacrosse doubleheader.
