
Wayne Sets Two School Records In 19-11 Win Against Connecticut

SYRACUSE, NY - Junior Kim Wayne (Scarsdale, NY/Scarsdale) set a school record for most points in a game with 10 as Syracuse defeated Connecticut 19-11 on Saturday afternoon in the Carrier Dome.
Syracuse extended its record to 6-2 and 2-1 in the BIG EAST Conference, while the Huskies now stand at 3-4 and 0-1 in the conference.
Wayne scored three goals and dished out seven assists, breaking Katrina Hable’s (Syracuse ‘01) school record of nine points set in the 2000 season against Boston College. Wayne also broke SU’s single-season assists record with 21, surpassing Hable, who held the top spot with 20.
Sophomore Leigh-Ann Zimmer (Farmingdale, NY/Farmingdale) started off the scoring 25 seconds into the game off an assist by Wayne. The Orangewomen quickly mounted a 4-0 lead before Connecticut got on the scoreboard with a free-position goal by Tracy Mullaney. Senior tri-captain Carrie Soults (Washington, DC/Georgetown Day School) scored the last goal before half, off Wayne’s fourth assist, to give Syracuse a 9-3 lead at the break.
Pamela Lowie scored three goals in the second half, including two to start off the second period to bring UConn within four, 9-5. Sophomore Danielle Lillis (West Islip, NY/West Islip) then found the back of the cage for her third hat trick of the season, and freshman Monica Joines (White Hall, MD/North Harford) followed with her third collegiate goal to make it 11-5.
Wayne dished out her seventh assist, tying her own school record for most helpers in a game, to Zimmer at 49:27 to stay ahead, 16-10. Soults scored two goals and gave out an assist in the final 10 minutes to seal the win for the Orangewomen.
Soults tied a career-high with six points on five goals and one assist. She moved into third place on the career scoring list at SU with 92. She surpassed Jenna Szyluk ‘01, who recorded 90. Soults also moved into third on the career points list with 113, again passing Szyluk (109). Graduate assistant coach Lauren Brady holds second place with 115 points.
Syracuse takes to the road to play 14th-ranked Notre Dame on Wednesday, April 3 at 4:00 p.m.
