
Orangewomen Lacrosse Earns 50th Victory In Program's History With 14-5 Win

SYRACUSE, NY - Sophomore Leigh-Ann Zimmer (Farmingdale, NY/Farmingdale) scored three of her five goals in the first 12 minutes of the game to lead 14th-ranked Syracuse to a 14-5 win against New Hampshire on Sunday afternoon in the Carrier Dome.
The Orangewomen (7-4, 2-3 BIG EAST) recorded their 50th victory in the program’s five-year history with the win against New Hampshire (7-4).
SU scored the first five goals of the game as junior Kim Wayne (Scarsdale, NY/Scarsdale) opened the scoring 6:18 into the match. Freshman Monica Joines (White Hall, MD/North Harford) followed Zimmer’s three goals with the fifth goal of her career to make it 5-0.
Jessie Groszkowski got UNH on the scoreboard with a tally, but Syracuse extended its lead to 7-1 with goals by junior Jessica Trombley (Kueka Park, NY/Penn Yan) and senior captain Carrie Soults (Washington, DC/Georgetown Day School).
The Wildcats came within three, 7-4, after scoring two goals before half and one 17 seconds into the second period. The Orangewomen scored four goals in the next 10 minutes to regain control of the game. Freshman Caitlyn Dragon (Jackson, NJ/Jackson Memorial) scored the second goal of her career off a free position, and senior Karen Healy (Freeport, NY/Freeport) and Soults each scored to close out the game.
Zimmer tied a personal best with six points (five goals, one assist) and Wayne tallied the opposite with one goal and five assists. Soults recorded three goals, five groundballs and four draw controls. Carla Gigon (Hingham, MA/Hingham) made 10 saves in goal for SU.
Syracuse returns to action on Wednesday, April 17 when it faces No. 5 Cornell on the road at 7 p.m.
