
Orangewomen Net 18 goals In Win Against Virginia Tech

SYRACUSE, NY - Sophomore Leigh-Ann Zimmer (Farmingdale, NY/Farmingdale) led the 18th-ranked Orangewomen with six points as SU defeated Virginia Tech, 18-8, on Sunday afternoon in the Carrier Dome.
Syracuse (9-5, 3-3 BIG EAST) won its third BIG EAST game of the season, while the Hokies finished their season at 6-10 and 1-5 in the conference.
Zimmer led the offense with five goals and one assist. Senior captain Carrie Soults (Washington, DC/Georgetown Day School) recorded five points on three goals and two assists. Soults scored her first goal 25 seconds into the game. Zimmer followed with Syracuse’s second goal and then assisted on junior Kim Wayne’s (Scarsdale, NY/Scarsdale) tally to give SU an early 3-0 lead.
Soults scored her second goal at 17:18 to make it 8-3 and SU scored the final four goals before half to lead at intermission, 12-3. The Orangewomen led by as much as 12, 15-3, in the second half. Freshman Jessica Bell (Syracuse, NY/Henninger) netted her first collegiate goal at 55:26, 16-7. Senior captainFran Amasia (Fallston, MD/Fallston) netted the final goal of the game off an assist by Soults.
Hilary Fay came off the bench to score Virginia Tech’s final four goals of the game. Kate Threadgold also recorded four points on two goals and two assists.
Soults tallied her 100th career goal and went on to tie graduate assistant coach Lauren Brady for second place on the all-time goals list at SU with 102. Katrina Hable ‘01 holds the record with 127. Zimmer recorded her 100th point (71 goals, 29 assists) in her two years at Syracuse. Syracuse plays its final game of the regular season on Saturday, May 4 at noon in a doubleheader with the men’s lacrosse team at the Carrier Dome.
