No. 16 Syracuse Streaks Past No. 13 Dartmouth, 18-9

SYRACUSE, NY - The 16th-ranked Orangewomen ended their regular season on a high note, defeating No. 13 Dartmouth, 18-9, on Saturday afternoon in the Carrier Dome.
Syracuse (10-5) held a five-goal lead at half, 10-5, and allowed only four Darmouth (10-6) tallies in the second half to seal the win.
SU jumped out to an early 5-1 advantage, including two goals by junior Kim Wayne (Scarsdale, NY/Scarsdale). Dartmouth responded with four straight goals to tie the game at 5 at 20:55. Five different SU scorers found the back in the net in the last eight minutes of the first half to give SU a convincing 10-5 halftime lead.
Wayne became the school’s all-time assists leader after finding junior Erin MacDonald (Syracuse, NY/Henninger) for SU’s ninth goal. Wayne surpassed Katrina Hable ‘01 with the 57th assist of her career. Wayne tallied seven points on four goals and three assists in the game.
Freshman Monica Joines (White Hall, MD/North Harford) scored her second goal and the team’s 10th with one second remaining on the clock in the first half. Joines went on to record a career-high four points in the game.
Syracuse was able to keep at least a four-goal lead against Dartmouth in the second half. After Whitney Jamison scored her third goal of the game to bring the Big Green within five, 14-9, SU finished the game with four straight goals.
Sophomore Leigh-Ann Zimmer (Farmingdale, NY/Farmingdale) contributed four goals on offense, while senior captain Carrie Soults (Washington, DC/Georgetown Day School) added three points on two goals and an assist.
The NCAA Women's Lacrosse Selection Show will begin at 8:30 p.m. via the Internet on Sunday, May 5.
