
SU Tennis Defeats BIG EAST Rival Connecticut, 6-1

The Orangewomen swept the doubles matches. Seniors Masha Kabanova and Shervin Saedinia won their No. 1 doubles bout, 8-3, sophomores Kristine Bech Holte and Trine Lise Juliussen won their No. 2 match 8-2, and juniors Daniela Kaluskova and Jessica Schlosser won the No. 3 contest 8-4.
In singles, Kabanova and Kaluskova took the No. 1 and No. 2 matches, respectively, each by a score of 6-1, 6-1. At No. 5, Holte defeated April Dixon, 6-2, 6-0, and at No. 4, Juliussen was victorious, 6-3, 7-5. Schlosser, in her first dual action of the spring, won her No. 6 match, 6-0, 6-4. Connecticut's only point came at No. 3 singles, as Barbara Schumsky needed three sets to defeat Saedinia, 7-6, 2-6, 6-2.
With her pair of wins, Kabanova moved into a tie for eighth place with Amy Schiff (1983-87) and Shareen Lai (1996-00) on SU's Century Club list with 134 career victories. Saedinia also moved up the Century Club list with her 125th career win. She is now tied for 14th place with Beth Schaefer (1979-83). Twenty-three current and former Orangewomen are members of the club which honors Syracuse tennis players who have won 100 or more matches in their SU careers.
The Orangewomen return to Drumlins on Sunday, Feb. 16, where they will face BIG EAST foe West Virginia at 12:00 p.m. The teams will begin warming up at 11:00 a.m.
