Wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles set up the Syracuse victory. Seniors Masha Kabanova and Shervin Saedinia defeated Melissa Day and Raynie Theis, 8-4, at No. 1. The other SU victory was earned by juniors Daniela Kaluskova and Jessica Schlosser, 8-2, against Courtney Howell and Catherine Koontz.
It took five singles matches for SU to clinch the victory. At No. 4, junior Trine Lise Juliussen retired from her match down 2-5 after suffering an ankle injury, giving the Mountaineers their first point. Saedinia put the Orangewomen back up with her No. 3 victory, 6-2, 6-2, but WVU tied it again when Theis defeated Schlosser, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 6. Kaluskova and Holte, at No. 2 and No. 5, respectively, clinched the win with their victories.
Syracuse head south for their next two matches. The Orangewomen will take on American on Feb. 22 at 11:00 a.m., then will look to extend their league winning streak at Georgetown on Sunday at 11:00 a.m.
