
Orangewomen Lose at Georgetown, 70-66

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Syracuse women's basketball team lost its fourth straight game, 70-66 at Georgetown on Saturday, February 15. The Orangewomen are now 8-15 overall and 3-9 in the BIG EAST, while the Hoyas improved to 14-8 overall and 5-6 in the conference.
It was a milestone day for SU junior Shannon Perry (Providence, R.I./LaSalle). Perry had nine rebounds and two assists, making her the first player in Orangewomen history with 600 career boards (608) and 200 career assists (201). Perry also made five free throws to move into second place on the SU all-time list with 304 career made foul shots. She was the Orangewomen's third-leading scorer in the game with 13 points.
Sophomore Rochelle Coleman(Burtonsville, Md./Paint Branch)led Syracuse with 16 points, including three three-pointers. Junior Julie McBride (Mechanicville, N.Y./Catholic Central) had 15 points, four assists and two steals. Junior April Jean (Sacramento, Calif./Coffeyville C.C.) grabbed 13 rebounds to gao with six points, five assists and one steal. Freshman Tierra Jackson (Upper Marlboro, Md./Frederick Douglass) tied a career high with four blocked shots. She also had nine points.
The game featured six ties and 10 lead changes. It was the Orangewomen's sixth loss of the season by four points or less. The Orangewomen trailed 62-51 with 4:11 left in the game, but SU went on a 9-0 run to knot the score with 1:34 remaining. The game was decided on the free throw line. Syracuse went 4-for-4 in the final 1:01, but the Hoyas were 8-of-8, including four straight by Mary Lisicky in the final 20 seconds.
Syracuse opened up a 7-0 lead in the first two minutes of the game. The Hoyas chipped away at the lead and took a 15-14 advantage with 13:11 left in the half. The lead changed hands six times the rest of the half and the Hoyas entered halftime with a 28-27 lead.
Rebekkah Brunson led Georgetown with 17 points and 13 rebounds. Three other Hoyas scored in double figures. Carmen Bruce hit for 16 points, while Lisicky and Zsuzsanna Horvath had 15 and 10, respectively.
The Orangewomen return home on Wednesday, February 19 to host the Providence Friars at Manley Field House at 7 p.m.
