
Joines Posts Eight Points In SU's 18-7 Win Against Colgate

HAMILTON, NY - Sophomore Monica Joines (White Hall, MD/North Harford) scored four goals and distributed four assists to lead the Syracuse women’s lacrosse team to an 18-7 victory on Wednesday night in Hamilton, NY.
Syracuse (5-2) extended its winning streak against Colgate (4-5) to six games. The 11-goal differential was SU’s largest margin of victory since the 2001 season when the Orangewomen defeated Colgate, 17-4.
Joines led the team with a career-high eight points. The midfielder is one of four Orangewomen to record eight points in a game. Senior Kim Wayne holds the record for single-game points with 10 (three goals, 10 assists) against Connecticut last year.
SU jumped out to a 10-3 lead in the first half with four goals apiece from junior Leigh-Ann Zimmer and Joines. In a nine-minute span, SU rattled off five straight goals with freshman Stephanie Walker netting her first collegiate goal in the run.
After freshman Jen Sadler tallied the first goal of her career, SU held its largest lead of the game, 15-4, at 48:00. Classmate Paige Rasmussen finished the scoring for the Orangewomen at 56:08 with her first goal off an assist by sophomore Alexis Fermanis.
Syracuse outshot Colgate, 31-18, and forced 15 Raider turnovers. SU made 11 substitutions in the game, and Sadler, junior Danielle Lillis and senior Erin MacDonald each scored two goals off the bench.
Becky Ortolano and Kelly Winning led Colgate with two goals.
Syracuse returns to action on Saturday, March 29, when it faces BIG EAST opponent Connecticut at 1 p.m. in Storrs, CT. A
