
Orangemen Lose at #9 St. John's

JAMAICA, N.Y. - The Syracuse men's soccer team lost a 3-0 decision at ninth-ranked St. John's on Saturday, September 20. The Orangemen are now 2-3-2 overall and 0-1-1 in the BIG EAST. The Red Sorm improved to 5-2 overall and 4-0-0 in the conference.
St. John's netted the first goal of the game in the seventh minute on Simone Salinno's fifth of the season. The score remained 1--0 through the rest of the first half. The Red Storm scored their second goal in the 69th minute on an unassisted goal by Matia Damiani. St. John's scored a third time in the 75th minute. Sebastian Ralph converted a header from Matt Groenwald to set the final score.
The Orangemen had just two shots in the game, both by freshman midfielder Frank Bruno. Sophomore goalkeeper Alim Karim made four saves in the loss for SU. Bill Gaudette was the winning keeper, making one save in just more than 85 minutes of play.
The game was the first of SU's three losses that was not decided in overtime. St. John's has not allowed a goal in its last three games, blanking Georgetown (3-0), Villanova (2-0) and Syracuse (3-0).
Syracuse will play the second of three straight road games on Wednesday, September 24 at Hartwick. The Orangemen's next home contest is on October 2 versus Notre Dame.
