SYRACUSE, NYÂ -- National Player of the Year candidate Hakim Warrick helped Syracuse close out the exhibition portion of its schedule with a 19-point, 11-rebound effort in a 91-59 victory against the College of St. Rose on Monday night, Nov. 8 in the Carrier Dome.
Warrick added five assists, four blocks and one steal to his line, all accumulated in 27 minutes of work. Senior guard Josh Pace and sophomore forward Demetris Nichols chipped in with 17 points each for the Orange. Pace was a perfect 7-7 from the field and 3-3 at the line.
Freshman forward Dayshawn Wright had his first double figure game with 11 points and added six rebounds. Sophomore forward Terrence Roberts contributed seven points, nine boards, two blocks and three steals.
SU was able to get on the board first, but St. Rose would stay with the Orange for the first eight minutes of the opening stanza. With Syracuse ahead by just one, 14-13, at the 10:19 mark, the Orange would begin a run of 16 unanswered points to extend the lead to 30-13. The Orange went into the break with a 44-24 advantage. Warrick had 12 points and seven rebounds by intermission time.
SU began the second stanza on a 12-5 run in the opening five minutes, and maintained a comfortable margin the rest of the way.
St. Rose was paced by Adam McGuire, who tallied 13 points and five boards.
Syracuse opens the regular season on Thursday, Nov. 11 in the first round of the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic in the Carrier Dome. Bucknell meets Princeton at 5:30 p.m., followed by the Syracuse-Northern Colorado matchup.
