
Orangewomen Earn Victory Against Rutgers, 4-3, in Tennis

Rutgers was awarded a victory by injury default at No. 3 doubles. At No. 2 doubles, freshmen Ashley Lipton and Katie Bramante paired to defeated Alina Balasa and Helen Magomedova, 8-2. At No. 1 doubles, senior Trine Lise Juliussen and sophomore Wei-Ming Leong defeated Andrea Weckstein and Ketevan Shmakova, 8-3, to capture SU's first point.
Senior Jessica Schlosser retired from her No. 4 match with Magomedova leading, 6-0, 3-0. Freshman Kendyl Severino lost to Kaitlin Link, 6-2, 6-3, and the Scarlet Knights held a 2-1 lead. SU pulled even when Bramante earned a 6-3, 6-2 win against Shmakova at No. 3, and the Orange went up, 3-2, with Lipton beat Balasa, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 2. Leong lost her No. 5 singles match against Jill Markowitz, 6-3, 7-5. With the team victory on the line, Juliussen defeated Wechstein in three sets, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 1 to seal the win.
Syracuse hosts Massachusetts on Sunday, Feb. 15, at noon at Drumlins Tennis Center.
