The Orangewomen were down, 2-0, before the match even started. A slew of injuries have left SU with just four healthy players, and Syracuse was forced to forfeit two singles matches and one doubles match. The Orange have played four of the last five matches shorthanded.
SU won the two doubles matches that were contested to get on the board. At No. 1, senior Trine Lise Juliussen and sophomore Wei-Ming Leong defeated Army's Marissa Limsiaco and Ali del Moral, 8-2. At No. 2, freshmen Ashley Lipton and Kendyl Severino came from behind to defeat Melanie Bundoc and Megan Noble in the tie-breaker, 9-8 (7-2).
Syracuse needed victories at three of the four singles spots to win the match. After Bundoc shut out Severino at No. 4, 6-0, 6-0, the Black Knights clinched the win when del Moral defeated Leong, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 3. Lipton swept Noble, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 2, and Juliussen lost to Limsiaco, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 1.
The Orangewomen host upstate rival Cornell on Sunday, February 22, at Drumlins Tennis Center at noon.
