Syracuse University Director of Athletics Jake Crouthamel and Citadel general manager Darren Smith announced the extension of the current SU Athletics radio network agreement. Citadel’s 95X (95.7 FM, WAQX) and ESPN Radio 1260 (WNSS) have signed a new long-term deal to carry Syracuse Orange football, men’s basketball, and men’s lacrosse games live, in addition to the weekly Paul Pasqualoni and Jim Boeheim call-in shows, and the nightly Orange Pulse sports program.
“We are pleased to continue our relationship with Citadel,” Crouthamel said. “We built a foundation for our radio network during the past four years and we look forward to seeing it continue to grow in this next phase of our partnership.”
The Syracuse University play-by play rights, first acquired by Citadel in 1999, are now locked in for a minimum of three more years, with an option to extend into 2009. The games and coaches’ shows are produced and distributed by International Sports Properties, Inc. (ISP) of Winston-Salem, NC.
“We are thrilled to extend our agreement with ISP and Syracuse University,” said Darren Smith, Citadel Syracuse Market Manager. “We value our partnership with the University and to provide this important outlet for SU fans all across Central New York.”
95X, the Syracuse Orange Flagship Station, carries Football and Men’s Basketball play by play, along with the Coaches’ Thursday evening 8pm shows. ESPN Radio 1260 offers simulcasts of the Coaches’ shows and the games, plus an additional hour of pregame coverage, and an extra hour of postgame analysis.
All Sports ESPN Radio 1260 airs the nightly 6:00 p.m. “Orange Pulse” show, hosted by Voice of the Orange Matt Park, featuring exclusive interviews with coaches, student-athletes, alumni and administrators. ESPN Radio 1260 is also the exclusive radio home of Syracuse University men’s lacrosse game broadcasts.
The five-member broadcast team for the Syracuse Sports Network features four SU alumns and a former Orange head coach. Park, a 1997 Syracuse graduate, will be the play-by-play voice for football and men’s basketball. During the football season analyst Dick MacPherson, the SU head coach from 1981-90, joins the broadcast team. For SU men’s basketball broadcasts Park and former Orange basketball student-athlete Gene Waldron will call the action. Local sports anchor Kevin Maher is the studio host for the SU football pre-game and post-game shows, in addition to serving as the sideline reporter. Brian Higgins, a 2004 SU graduate, is the reporter and will serve as the play-by-play voice for men’s lacrosse broadcasts.
