SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Senior Kyle Heath placed third and junior Nana Sang-Bender posted a second-place finish as the Syracuse men and women’s cross country teams each finished first at the Boston College Invitational on Friday.

The Syracuse men finished first, with a team time of 24:45.60, in front of two of the Northeast Region’s favorites in No. 3 Iona (25:43.40) and No. 11 Providence (24:55.60). The Orange women posted the invitational’s best finish, with a team time of 17:46.60, before No. 9 Providence (18:17.80) and No. 28 Boston College (17:49.80).

“Overall, it was a good day for both teams,” said third-year Syracuse head coach Chris Fox. “The men did a solid job and the women ran great. If we can run like this the entire season, we’ll be good down the road. We’re very pleased with today’s performance.”

Heath’s time of 24:28 led four scores for the Orange in the top 10. Sophomore Dan Busby finished fifth with a time of 24:39 and junior Jeff Scull ranked seventh after totaling a time of 24:41. Sophomore Jay Koloseus finished 10^th with a time of 24:57.

Sang-Bender’s time of 17:16 led the women’s squad that boasted four finishes in the top 20. Senior Liz Cufari’s time of 17:40 placed eighth while sophomore Maegan Krifchin finished 13^th after totaling a time of 17:52. Freshman Katie Hursey, whose sixth-place finish at the Binghamton Invitational paced the Syracuse women, placed 18^th with a time of 17:59.

Today’s venue at Boston College will be the site of the 2007 Northeast Regionals on November 10.

Following a two-week lay-off, the Orange return to action for the opening of the regular season at the Paul Short Invitational in Lehigh, Pa. Consideration for the USTFCCCA National Poll does not begin until Saturday, September 29.
