MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - Orange senior forward Hansen Woodruff was selected to the All-BIG EAST Second Team for the third straight season on Thursday, Nov. 12. The all-conference teams and individual award winners were announced Thursday night at the league's annual banquet. Voting was conducted by the BIG EAST's 16 coaches, who were not permitted to vote for their own players.
Woodruff led the Orange in points (16), goals (6) and tied for the team lead with three assists in 2009. He recorded a pair of two-goal games during the year, scoring twice in the team's non-conference win against Cornell on Sept. 5 and in the Orange's 3-1 victory versus Cincinnati on Oct. 31.
For his career, Woodruff registered 66 points to finish tied for ninth on the Syracuse all-time scoring list. Woodruff's 27 career goals ranks ninth on the program's all-time ledger.
Regular-season Blue Division champion Connecticut took home three of the conference's individual awards. Toni Stahl was named the BIG EAST Midfielder of the Year, while freshman Carlos Alvarez was tabbed the league's Rookie of the Year. The Huskies' Kwame Watson-Siriboe shared BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year honors with Louisville's Phil Edginton.
The other major award winners included Notre Dame's Bright Dike, who was tabbed the conference's Offensive Player of the Year. Jeff Attinella of USF was named the BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year and Louisville head coach Ken Lolla and his assistants were chosen as the BIG EAST Coaching Staff of the Year. In addition, Pittsburgh received the inaugural BIG EAST Fair Play Award, presented to the team with the lowest point total accumulated for fouls (one point), yellow cards (five points) and red cards (10 points) in league play.
The BIG EAST Conference Tournament continues on Friday with two semifinal matchups at West Virginia's Dick Dlesk Stadium. Providence will take on St. John's in the first match and Louisville and Notre Dame will square off in the nightcap. The winners will meet Sunday to decide the conference championship.
