
Six Named Mideast Region All-Americans

SYRACUSE – The Syracuse University field hockey team had six of its members named to the 2009 Longstreth/NFHCA Division I All-Mideast Region Team. The Orange placed four student-athletes on the first team and two on the second team. Junior forward Lindsey Conrad, junior back Kim Coyle, sophomore midfielder Martina Loncarica and freshman back Amy Kee were SU's first-team selections. Conrad and Loncarica are Syracuse's first back-to-back to first-team regional All-Americans since 2000-01. Junior back Maggie Befort and sophomore forward Heather Susek were named to the second team. Befort is SU's first back-to-back second-team regional All-American since 2005-06. The 2009 Longstreth/NFHCA Division I All-America Teams will be released on Monday, November 23.
Conrad was named to the BIG EAST First Team for her efforts during the season. She ranks tied for second on SU's all-time points list with 94 and fourth on SU's all-time goals scored list with 38. Her 43 points this season rank fifth on SU's single-season chart and her 17 goals ranked tied for fourth. The junior was named the BIG EAST Offensive and ECAC Offensive Player of the Week once during the season. She has tallied a team-best 43 points off a team-high 17 goals and nine assists.
Loncarica was named to the BIG EAST First Team and BIG EAST Championship All-Tournament Team. She is Syracuse's all-time assists leader with 48. Her 88 career points rank sixth and her 17 assists this season rank tied for third on SU's single-season chart. The sophomore was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll once this season and was Syracuse's lone unanimous selection to the BIG EAST First Team. Loncarica has recorded 23 points off three goals and a team-high 17 assists.
Kee was also named to the BIG EAST First Team and BIG EAST Championship All-Tournament Team. Kee was named the BIG EAST Offensive and BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week once during her freshman campaign. Kee also earned ECAC Offensive Player of the Week honors as well as womensfieldhockey.com Rookie of the Week accolades. A four-time member of the BIG EAST Honor Roll, Kee has registered 34 points off 12 goals and 10 assists.
Coyle helped anchor a defense that allowed only 35 goals (1.59 per game) and 97 penalty corners. The Orange only allowed 9.1 shots per game while posting four shutouts in 2009.
Befort was named to the BIG EAST First Team for her performance during 2009. The junior is Syracuse's all-time leading scoring with 105 points and currently sits second on SU's career assist list with 45. The junior was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll twice during the season and has recorded 29 points off 10 goals and nine assists.
Husek was named to the BIG EAST and womensfieldhockey.com Honor Rolls once during the 2009 season. The sophomore has recorded 21 points off eight goals and five assists. Two of her eight goals were game-winners.
The back-to-back BIG EAST Regular Season Champions (18-4) ended their season with a second round loss in the NCAA Tournament. It marked the second consecutive season SU won a NCAA Tournament game.
