
Orange Meets Princeton for First Time

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse Orange will play its last game of 2009 when it welcomes Princeton to Tennity Ice Pavilion for a two-game series on Friday, December 11 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, December 12 at 4 p.m. SU will take a break from action for the holidays and will not resume play till January 2 when it hosts Colgate. Last Time Out
After losing, 3-1, to Wayne State on Friday, the Orange went on to defeat the Warriors, 3-2, for the first time in school history on Saturday. Freshman forward Isabel Menard scored her sixth goal of the season on Friday night, but 11 penalties resulted in a one-goal setback. The Orange bounced back during the second game, when three different SU players scored goals en route to the victory. Junior assistant captain Stefanie Marty scored her team-leading ninth goal of the season, while sophomore Lisa Mullan and junior Julie Rising added one a piece. After leading by two, WSU cut the Syracuse lead with less than three minutes remaining, but senior goaltender Lucy Schoedel held of the Warriors' final efforts in the last 30 seconds to give the Orange the victory.
Menard Continues to Receive League Recognition
Freshman standout Isabel Menard was named the College Hockey America Rookie of the Week for the fourth time this season for her performance against Wayne State. She scored the first goal of Friday's game, then added assists on back-to-back goals on Saturday, including a game-winner, to finish the weekend series with three points. She had six shots on goal and a +2 plus/minus rating over the weekend.
Orange Against the Tigers
It will be the first meeting between Syracuse and Princeton. The Orange is 5-4-1 against first-time opponents and 4-1 against ECAC Hockey teams this season.
Scouting Princeton
Princeton is 7-6-1 after being shutout, 3-0, by Clarkson on December 5. Danielle DiCesare has a team-leading 15 points (7g, 8a) this season, while junior Laura Martindale is leading the defense with three goals and four assists. Sophomore Rachel Weber (1.88 GAA, .901 Sv%) and freshman Cassie Seguin (1.97 GAA, .914 Sv%) have shared time in the net all season. The Tigers are led by Jeff Kampersal, who is in his 14th season as head coach. Kampersal's teams have averaged better than 17 wins per season, and he has accrued a 204-156-35 record in his 13 years behind the Princeton bench.
