
Wheddon Announces 2009 Schedule

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Five home games against BIG EAST Conference opponents highlight the 2009 Syracuse women's soccer schedule, which was released by head coach Phil Wheddon on Thursday, May 28. The Orange opens the season at St. Bonaventure on Saturday, Aug. 22.
Syracuse will play its first nine games of the season on the road. Following its contest at St. Bonaventure, the Orange takes part in the Colorado College Invitational on August 28 and 30. SU opens the tournament against Washington State, an NCAA Tournament participant a year ago, before taking on Drake.
The Orange faces New York state foes in its next four contests, playing at Fordham (Sept. 4), Binghamton (Sept. 6), Colgate (Sept. 11) and Niagara (Sept. 13). Syracuse opens BIG EAST play on Sept. 18 at St. John's before traveling to St. Joseph's on Sept. 20 for its final non-conference game of the season.
The home opener is slated for Sept. 25 when Syracuse hosts Providence. Following a road game at Connecticut (Sept. 27), the Orange hosts Cincinnati and (Oct. 2) and Louisville (Oct. 4) at the SU Soccer Stadium. Syracuse plays four straight games on the road, including contests at West Virginia (Oct. 9), Pittsburgh (Oct. 11), Rutgers (Oct. 16) and Seton Hall (Oct. 18), before ending the regular season with home games against Marquette (Oct. 23) and USF (Oct. 25).
The 2009 BIG EAST Championship gets underway with first-round and quarterfinal games at campus sites on Oct. 29 and Nov. 1. The semifinals and final will be played at Connecticut's Morrone Stadium on Nov. 6 and 8.
