
Duo Named Academic All-Americans

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Senior Katie Rowan and junior Christina Dove have been named to the ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-America At-Large Team. Rowan was voted to the first team, while Dove was a second-team honoree.
An Academic All-America second-team selection last season, Rowan ranked second in the nation in points (112), assists (58), points per game (5.89) and assists per game (3.05) in 2009. She was named an IWLCA first-team All-American for the third consecutive season, becoming the first player in the program's history to accomplish the feat. Rowan earned the BIG EAST co-Attack Player of the Year award and was a unanimous selection to the All-BIG EAST First Team for the fourth straight year after leading the league in scoring. She became the BIG EAST's career scoring leader this season, finishing her career with 134 points in 22 regular-season league games. Syracuse's all-time leader in points (396), goals (232) and assists (164), Rowan ends her career ranked fourth on the NCAA Division I all-time scoring list and third in career assists. She is the first student-athlete in the program's history to earn first-team Academic All-America accolades.
Rowan is a member of Team USA, which will compete at the 2009 FIL World Cup beginning June 17 in Prague, Czech Republic.
Dove earns Academic All-America honors for the first time in her career. She led the Orange with 59 goals this season and was named to the IWLCA All-America Second Team for the second straight year. Dove earned the BIG EAST co-Midfielder of the Year award and was a unanimous All-BIG EAST First Team selection. She ranked fourth in the league and 20th in the nation with a 3.11 goals-per-game average. In addition, she led the BIG EAST with seven game-winning goals. Dove climbed to second place on Syracuse's career leader list for points (238) and goals (181).
Dove is one of 64 players who will take part in the second round of tryouts for the 2009-10 U.S. women's lacrosse developmental team August 1-2 at the University of Maryland – Baltimore County.
The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) selects Academic All-America teams in 12 programs. The nominee must be a starter or important reserve with legitimate athletic credentials and at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) in both undergraduate and graduate work. He/she must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their institution (true freshmen, red-shirt freshmen and ineligible athletic transfers are not eligible) and must have completed at least one full academic year at the institution. Nominated athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games.
