
Taylor Named to Development Team

SYRACUSE – Recently graduated field hockey All-American Shannon Taylor has been named to the USA Field Hockey's Women's Development Team as announced at the conclusion of the Women's National Championship. Taylor will work with the development team in hopes of making the National Team, which is striving to qualify for the 2010 World Cup and 2012 Olympics.
In addition to being named to the Development Team, Taylor will rejoin the Orange in 2009 as a volunteer assistant coach.
A First-team 2008 Longstrenth/NFHCA Division I and womensfieldhockey.com All-America, Taylor was also named to the All-BIG EAST First Team and the ECAC All-Star squad. A Honda-Broderick Award finalist, she was also the BIG EAST Tournament Most Outstanding Player and a member of the All-BIG EAST Tournament Team.
Taylor made a huge impact with the Orange last season. Taylor was the statistical champion for points per game (3.29) and goals per game (1.29). Her 79 points and 31 goals are both Orange single-season records. Her point total ranks tied for eighth (Jodie Carter, 1992-95) on SU's career list and her 14 assists rank third on Syracuse's single-season list. Taylor's points and goals are both Syracuse senior records. Taylor was also named to the Final Four All-Tournament Team.
The Virginia native spent the last eight months in Germany playing professionally. Prior to Syracuse she was named the Atlantic 10 Offensive Player of the Year in 2006.
