SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Former Syracuse soccer star Patrice Bernier was an integral part of Team Canada reaching the quarterfinal round of the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup earlier this month. Bernier, a starter in the midfield, helped Canada's Senior National Team to a first-place showing in Group A.
Team Canada went 2-0-1 in group play with 1-0 victories against Jamaica and El Salvador on goals by Ali Gerber. The squad also tied Costa Rica, 2-2, to earn seven points during the group stage. In the quarterfinals, Canada was eliminated by Honduras, 1-0, at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia on July 18.
