Team Canada earned a fourth-place finish at the FIBA Americas Tournament in Puerto Rico. The result gave Canada a spot in the 2010 World Championships to be hosted by Turkey.
The Canadian squad had an Orange hue to it -- Leo Rautins, a member of Syracuse's All-Century Team, serves as coach of the club. A key player is Andy Rautins, Leo's son and a senior on the current SU squad.
Andy Rautins finished the 10-game tournament tied for second in team-scoring honors. In addition to averaging 9.5 points per outing, Rautins averaged 3.0 assists. He had a squad-best 23 3-point baskets and shot 45.1 percent from behind the arc.
Rautins had 23 points in a 97-65 quarterfinal round victory against Panama on September 23. He had five 3-pointers in the win. He had two 18-point outings during the qualifying round -- on August 27 against Mexico and on August 30 versus Puerto Rico.
