The one-point margin made Saturday's game seem closer than it was. The Orange led by 10 with a little more than a minute to play, but three long Mountaineer 3-pointers in the last 34 seconds helped account for the slim margin of victory.
Freshman guard Brandon Triche paced Syracuse with 16 points. It was his third straight double-digit scoring effort. He also had a squad-best five assists. Triche's offensive production was critical with junior forward Wes Johnson battling the flu. Johnson still managed 13 points and five rebounds in the contest.
After being dominated on the glass early at West Virginia, the Orange outrebounded the Mountaineers, 35-29, for the game. Junior forward Rick Jackson led the way with 10 boards, including five on the offensive end.
TRICHE FINDING HIS WAY
After struggling at times, rookie Brandon Triche appears to be finding his sea legs in BIG EAST Conference play. He has been in double figures in each of the last three games, all conference victories.
