Good evening everyone,
I hope all is well and I wanted to provide each of you with a quick update here from campus. Although it is still a little cold outside (perhaps a little understated but we are still trying to convince a few southern recruits that this whole global warming thing has actually ensured that there are no more harsh winters here in Syracuse) the boys are working extremely hard in preparation for our Spring games.
Firstly I wanted to thank everyone who has welcomed us to Syracuse. Thank you so much on behalf of both my family and our soccer staff (my other family members) who truly appreciate all of your support. Many of you have even offered to lend a hand this year and I am excited to have the chance to meet with you over the upcoming months. Several of you quickly moved on from your initial warm wishes in search of assurances that the annual Alumni match / golf day was still going ahead!!! I will be speaking with you shortly about specifics although May 1 ppears to be the date. I hope to see many of you back in town with your boots, shin guards and putters in hand!
I also wanted to take this opportunity to introduce you to our soccer staff here at Syracuse. Jukka Masalin has made the move with me from Hartwick College and he will be a terrific addition to our program. Jukka is a tremendous trainer who possesses a very good eye for talent. (He is also a fellow Liverpool Football Club supporter which, ultimately, secured him the job.) I know that Jukka is very excited to be onboard here at Syracuse and is looking forward to embracing the challenges ahead. The boys are already “enjoying”/benefiting from his training regiment and I am confident that Jukka will help bring out the very best in our boys.
I am also delighted to welcome Mike Miller to Syracuse University. Mike will work specifically with our goalkeepers although he will be an integral part of all facets of our program as we move forward. He is a very talented young coach with a very bright future ahead of him. I know that he will be a fantastic addition to our program and will elevate our day-to-day operations of the program.
And finally I wanted to recognize the tremendous hard work and loyalty demonstrated by Tim Cupello. I would like to thank Tim for his professional approach throughout this difficult transitional period. He has carried himself with a tremendous amount of class and integrity during trying times. Thanks Tim for all your work!
Some of you have also enquired about a recruiting class update for the upcoming Fall campaign. Although we did start a little late this year we feel that we are in the process of finalizing an outstanding first recruiting class. I look forward to shortly introducing you to our newest SU student-athletes and I know that you will make these young men feel a special part of our soccer family here at Syracuse University.
Well that about does it for now and I look forward to chatting again with you very soon. I would like to thank you for your support of the program and I ask you to keep cheering on the boys!
