
Orange Hosts Robert Morris for Senior Day

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse University ice hockey team (16-13-1, 7-5) will conclude its home schedule when it hosts Robert Morris (7-20-1, 0-9-1) on Friday, February 12 and Saturday, February 13, with both games slated to begin at 7 p.m. The Orange will honor its seniors on Senior Day during Saturday's contest. Following the weekend series, Syracuse will travel to No. 1/2 Mercyhurst to close out its regular season. Fans can watch Friday's game on SUAthletics.com via Orange All Access, while Saturday's game will have live audio available.
Senior Send Off
Three seniors, including defensemen Gabrielle Beaudry and Brittaney Maschmeyer and goaltender Lucy Schoedel, will be honored during Saturday's game against the Colonials. Beaudry and Schoedel skated for the Orange in the inaugural campaign, while Maschmeyer transferred from St. Lawrence at the start of this season to reunite with her former head coach, Paul Flanagan, who came from St. Lawrence to begin the SU ice hockey program.
Beaudry, a Cortland, N.Y. native, has played in every game since the Orange originated and has four points on two goals and two assists this season. She has skated alongside fellow defenseman Brittaney Maschmeyer, who has two power-play goals and 14 assists.
Schoedel has been the face of SU hockey since the inaugural season, as she has been in net for all 58 games. The Ithaca, N.Y. native has recorded six shutouts as an Orange woman, including three this season while posting a 2.45 goals-against average and .911 save percentage. Her three shutouts ties for second in the CHA, while her 25.00 saves per game tops the list.
Last Time Out
The Orange split it series at Niagara last weekend, as the Purple Eagles earned its first home victory against Syracuse. Freshman Holly Carrie-Mattimoe scored the equalizer as time expired in the first period, but the Purple Eagles shutout SU in the final two periods as the Orange was defeated, 2-1, on Friday evening. On day two, SU overcame an early deficit and scored two unanswered goals as it defeated Niagara, 2-1. The Orange, who was outshot by NU, 32-18, earned its seventh victory in the league to win the second-place tiebreaker. Two of SU's leading scorers contributed to the win, including junior forward Julie Rising, who tacked on her team-leading 15th goal of the season. Freshman Isabel Menard added a marker for the second consecutive game to increase her points total to a team-high 33.
Syracuse-Robert Morris Series
RMU was SU's first CHA conference opponent in history. The Orange is 2-3-1 against the Colonials, with both wins coming earlier this season in Pennsylvania. Syracuse won both games hosted by Robert Morris in November. Freshman Isabel Menard scored three goals over the weekend, including her only short-handed goal this season. Senior goaltender Lucy Schoedel recorded 32 saves in her first shutout of the season on Friday, Nov. 20. Her 32 saves is her second-highest saves total, and she turned aside 33 at New Hampshire. The Orange penalty killing unit was a perfect 0-of-7, while it went 3-of-9 in power-player opportunities in the weekend series earlier this season.
Scouting the Colonials
Robert Morris is 7-20-1 overall and 0-9-1 in the CHA this season. In a game postponed from December, Robert Morris was unable to overcome the Mercyhurst three-goal cushion after the first two periods and ended with a 4-1 loss. The Colonials hosted the Lakers for a weekend series just three days later, where they were defeated 4-0 and 9-2. Brianna Delaney leads RMU with 27 points on 13 goals and 14 assists, while Sara O'Malley has the most goals on the team with 15. Daneca Butterfield has started in goal 19 of 21 contests and has recorded a goals-against average of 3.29 and a .899 save percentage.
