SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Pennsylvania high school soccer star Brett Jankouskas has signed a National Letter-of-Intent (NLI) to play for the Orange next season, head coach Ian McIntyre announced on Thursday, March 4.
Jankouskas is the second player to sign with the Orange since McIntyre took over the program in January, joining junior college All-American Federico Agreda in this year's class.
A standout at Palmyra Area High School from 2006-09, Jankouskas earned NSCAA/adidas All-America honors and was named the state player of the year by the Pennsylvania Soccer Coaches Association in 2009.
“Brett is a young man who is very familiar to our coaching staff and a student-athlete who we feel has a tremendous future here at Syracuse University,” McIntyre said. “He has enjoyed a terrific high school career and he possesses the commitment and dedication required to make a successful transition to soccer in the BIG EAST. Brett knows where the goal is and we look forward to seeing him compete in an Orange jersey in the fall.”
Jankouskas finished his scholastic career as the all-time leading scorer in Palmyra Area history with 86 goals. He led the team to the PIAA 'AA' state championship in 2007 and state quarterfinal and semifinal appearances in 2008 and 2009, respectively. The 2008 squad also took home the District III 'AA' championship.
Jankouskas received several individual honors during his high school career. In addition to All-America and Pennsylvania Player of the Year recognition, Jankouskas was tabbed the Mid-Penn Conference and Keystone Conference Player of the Year in 2009. He also received NSCAA/adidas All-Region II recognition and was rewarded with all-state accolades following his senior season.
Jankouskas earned Patriot News Big 11 All-Area honors three times in his career, including first-team recognition in 2008 and 2009. He was also a three-time Keystone Conference All-Star and three-time All-Lebanon County selection.
At the club level, Jankoukas competed for the Pennsylvania Classics from 2003-09 and was captain of the Classics' U-16 and U-17 squads.
He is currently a member of the IMG Soccer Academy U-17/U-18 USSF team based in Bradenton, Fla.
The NLI signing period for men's soccer continues through Aug. 1. More information on SU's 2010 recruiting class will be released as it's received.
