The women's soccer squad will be in action on Sunday at Binghamton. All Syracuse fans and alumni in the area are invited to the contest, which begins at 1 p.m.
The Orange posted a 1-1-1 record in three games last weekend. The Orange defeated Brown, 1-0. Freshman Amanda Hamilton scored the game's only goal on a corner kick. Syracuse tied St. Rose, 0-0, and lost to Albany, 1-0. Head coach Phil Wheddon was pleased with the team's performance, as it generated many scoring opportunities in all three games.
“I'm exceptionally happy with the speed of play and our overall performance,” Wheddon said. “We continue to grow and move forward as a team.”
Syracuse made great strides in 2009. The squad put together its longest winning streak since 2004 and went unbeaten for five straight games for the first time since 2005. The Orange is using the spring season to get ready for the 2010 campaign when it returns its top five scorers.
“The spring is a time for the team to develop, to work together and prepare for the fall,” Wheddon said. “Last weekend's results were very positive.”
The Orange concludes its spring season next weekend with an alumni game.
