SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Redshirt senior Ryan Bartholomew (Mitchellville, Md.) of the Orange football team and women's soccer student-athlete junior Taylor Chamberlain (Sacramento, Calif.) are the Syracuse University Scholar-Athletes of the Week for the week of Sept. 13, 2010.
Bartholomew has started 24 consecutive games at guard or center for the Orange dating back to his junior season. He is a nominee for the 2010 Rimington Award, presented to the nation's top center. As a captain, he has anchored the offensive line that helped Syracuse rush for 314 total yards and open the season 1-1.
Bartholomew completed his undergraduate degree in health and exercise science and is pursuing a Master's degree in instructional design, development and evaluation. The 2009 All-BIG EAST Second Team selection and the Orange will welcome Maine to the Carrier Dome for SU's home opener on Saturday, September 18 at 7:15 p.m.
Chamberlain has played in all eight games at midfield this season for the Orange, who are 3-3-2 overall. She recorded one assist on Sunday, Sept. 12 in SU's 4-0 win against Binghamton. Following the 2009 season, Chamberlain was named to the BIG EAST All-Academic Team. She was also a member of the Athletic Director's Honor Roll in both semesters last year.
Chamberlain, a health and exercise science major, and the Orange will welcome St. John's to SU Soccer Stadium to open BIG EAST play on Friday, September 17 at 7 p.m.
