
Alexander Named Player of the Week

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Sophomore center Kayla Alexander has been named the BIG EAST Player of the Week for Jan. 3 the conference announced today. It is the second career player of the week honor for Alexander and the second for the Orange this season.
The Milton, Ontario native averaged 21.3 points per game, 11.0 rebounds per game and 4.0 blocks per game, leading SU to a 3-0 week last week while shooting 64.3 percent from the field. Alexander posted a team-best 20 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks, shooting 75 percent against St. Francis (Pa.) and led all scorers with 23 points, eight rebounds, four blocked shots and shot 82 percent against Bryant. Alexander rounded out the week with her fourth-consecutive 20-point game against Arkansas Pine Bluff, recording 21 points, 14 rebounds and five blocks.
A 2009-10 All-BIG EAST Rookie Team honoree, Alexander has tallied three double-doubles in the last four games and currently leads the Orange in points (16.1), blocks (3.6), field goal percentage (.603) and rebounds (8.6).
After matching its program-best start with a 12-1 record in non-conference play, the Orange opens its BIG EAST schedule at Georgetown on Tuesday, Jan. 4 at 7 p.m.
