Boerger is BIG EAST Goalie of the Week

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Syracuse senior Phil Boerger was named the BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week on Monday, Oct. 10 for his performance against No. 11 Louisville last Saturday. Boerger made seven saves to earn his first shutout of the season in the Orange's 0-0 draw against the Cardinals on Oct. 8.
The shutout was the ninth of Boerger's career. He kept the 2010 national runner-up off the board through the first 90 minutes of play behind four saves. In the first overtime session, Boerger made another stop, and in the final two minutes of the game, he came up with two more saves to preserve the clean sheet.
For the season, Boerger has played all 948:37 in goal for the Orange. He has 45 saves and holds a 1.52 goals-against average. Boerger is currently second in the BIG EAST in saves per game (4.5) and fourth in the league in saves.
Boerger is the first SU player in three years to be named BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week. The last was Robert Cavicchia on Oct. 6, 2008.
Syracuse is back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 12 for a match against No. 9 St. John's. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the SU Soccer Stadium.
