SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse is ranked eighth in the most recent Continental Tire NSCAA Northeast Regional Rankings released on Monday, Oct. 17. The Orange is one of seven BIG EAST teams in the regional top 10.
Three of Syracuse's four conference losses have come against squads ranked in the Northeast Region top six as No. 1 Marquette, No. 2 West Virginia, and No. 6 Georgetown defeated SU earlier in the 2011 campaign. The Orange recorded a win against No. 9 Rutgers in double overtime.
The ranking adds to a long list of accomplishments for the 2011 installment of Phil Wheddon's team. Syracuse clinched a spot in the BIG EAST Tournament for the first time since 2005 with its victory against South Florida last week. With the win versus USF, the Orange recorded its seventh win of the season, which marks the most since Wheddon took the helm of the program in 2008. Syracuse has also registered six BIG EAST victories, the most since 1998.
The Orange (7-6-3, 6-4) finishes its regular season on Friday at St. John's at 7 p.m., before traveling to either Georgetown or Louisville for a BIG EAST Tournament quarterfinal match-up on Sunday, October 30.
