The fifth ranked Syracuse field hockey team (15-3, 5-1) returns to J.S. Coyne Stadium to close the regular season on Sunday against Bucknell at 2:00 p.m.
Thank You Seniors
Before Sunday's game with the Bisons, Syracuse will honor its four seniors for their dedication and commitment to SU throughout their careers with the Orange.
Martina Loncarica, Nicole Nelson, Heather Susek and Erika Wachter have been one of the most successful classes in SU field hockey history with a 71-14 record including three-straight BIG EAST regular season championships, two conference titles and a NCAA Final Four appearance in 2008
Back To The Playoffs
Syracuse clinched a spot in the 2011 BIG EAST Championship Tournament two weekends ago with its win against Georgetown. This will be the fifth straight season that the Orange has made an appearance in the conference tournament.
The tournament, which is scheduled for November 4-6, will take place at the home of the Orange, J.S. Coyne Stadium. 2011 will mark the sixth time that SU has hosted the BIG EAST Field Hockey Championship, and the first time since 2007. SU has won two of the past three conference tournaments, including the 2010 Championship with a 1-0 win against UConn.
After Friday's win at Villanova, the Orange secured the No. 2 seed in the tournament, and will square off with the Wildcats once again at 3:00 p.m. next Friday. Connecticut, the 2011 regular season champion and No. 1 seed, will face No. 4 seed Louisville at 12:30. The winners of the semifinal games will play on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. for the conference title.
Millman Nearing Junior Class Records
Junior forward Kelsey Millman (Center Valley, Pa.) has 45 points (16 goals and 13 assists) for the Orange this season, and is three points away from tying Yvonne Milionis' 1990 record for most points as a junior. She also needs one assist to tie the junior class record for assists in a season, currently held by Meg Ryan (2005) and Sherri Magsam (1988).
Millman is riding 12-game point streak dating back to Sep. 16 against Rutgers. In that time, she has 13 goals and 11 assists (37 points).
Series Notes With Bucknell
The Orange have never lost to Bucknell, with SU holding a 4-0 series advantage. The first meeting was in 1985, and won the only game played between the two of them in Syracuse.
Scouting The Bisons
Bucknell is 6-9 so far this season. In their last game, the Bisons beat American, 3-1, to level their Patriot League record to 2-2. Mallory Smith leads the team in points (16), goals (five) and assists (six). Goalkeeper Erica Perrine has been in between the pipes for most of the games for the Bison this year. She holds a 2.13 goals-against-average and .685 save percentage.
