Anghel Named to BIG EAST Honor Roll

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Syracuse sophomore goalkeeper Brittany Anghel was named to the BIG EAST Women's Soccer Honor Roll for her performances in the Orange's victories at Seton Hall and Rutgers last week. Anghel grabbed seven saves in the two road wins. She also recorded her first career assist against the Pirates. It is her second career appearance on the BIG EAST Honor Roll, last earning the award during the 2010 season.
Not surrendering a goal until the 78th minute, Anghel made four saves against Seton Hall. Her first career assist came on a long lead pass to freshman Megan Hunsberger, who scored SU's third goal of the contest. The sophomore kept Rutgers scoreless for the last 90 minutes of the match-up to help secure a thrilling double-overtime victory against the Scarlet Knights. She recorded finished with three saves against RU.
Anghel currently ranks fourth in the BIG EAST in goals-against average (0.86) and fifth in the conference in save percentage (.796). Anghel's five shutouts are tied for second in the league, while her shutouts per game average of 0.42 ranks third in the BIG EAST.
This season Anghel has moved into a tie for fourth place in the Syracuse record books for most career shutouts. Her 11 career shutouts are nine shy of Eliza Bennett-Hattan's mark, set during the 2006-09 seasons.
Anghel and the Orange look to extend their three-game winning streak on the road at Pittsburgh on Friday, October 7 at 7 p.m. Syracuse will then travel to Morgantown, W.Va. to face the No. 22 Mountaineers on Sunday, October 9 at 1 p.m.
