SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Freshmen Jordan Murrell and Skylar Thomas each earned invitations to the upcoming Canadian U-20 camp. Murrell and Thomas were among the 19 players invited to the camp, which will be run by newly-appointed Canadian U-20 head coach Nick Dasovic. The two will participate in the 10-day camp later this month in Sunrise, Fla.
Â
Canada's U-20 program features players born in 1993 or later. The team is looking to qualify for the 2013 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Turkey.
Â
Murrell and Thomas were the only two collegiate players to receive camp invitations. The Syracuse duo previously attended Canada's U-18 camp held in January in Costa Rica.
Â
"We are all excited for Skylar and Jordan to be called into Coach Dasovic's first U-20 camp," Syracuse head coach Ian McIntyre said. "I feel that both of these players have big futures ahead of them here at Syracuse University and I know that they learned a great deal from their first year of competition."
Â
In his first season on campus, Murrell started 15 games, predominately on defense. He earned University of Akron All-Tournament honors after scoring his first collegiate goal against No. 16 New Mexico.
Â
Thomas started 13 games on defense. He was a member of a back line that posted a shutout at No. 11 Louisville. On the offensive end, Thomas finished fourth on the team in scoring with five points (two goals, one assist).
