Syracuse, which dodged a bullet early in the first period when Kelsey Thomas rang a shot off the post, took a 1-0 lead midway through the frame with the Orange on the power play. With Brandi Pollock in the box for interference, Ferrara scored her second goal in as many games when she took a feed from Margot Scharfe and buried a shot past RMU goaltender Kristen DiCiocco for the score.
Robert Morris responded with two goals in the second period to take a 2-1 lead through 40 minutes of play. The first came with 10:11 left in the frame as Thea Imbrogno potted her seventh goal of the season on a shot that beat Drinkwater with the Colonials on the power play.
Thomas put RMU up 2-1 with less than 30 seconds remaining in the stanza on her seventh goal of the year off a pass from Brianna Delaney.
Syracuse battled throughout the third period in an effort to knot the score at two, and had a five-on-three power play early on in the frame. DiCiocco, however, made four stops during the man advantage to preserve the Robert Morris lead. The Orange pulled Drinkwater in favor of the extra skater with 1:12 left in regulation, but could not find the equalizer.
