
SU and Hoyas Meet for Round Two Saturday

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- No. 17/20 Syracuse goes on the road for the last time during the regular season to take on rival No. 11/11 Georgetown on Saturday, February 26. Tipoff is set for noon. The Orange (23-6, 10-6) will try to avenge an earlier season loss to the Hoyas (21-7, 10-6) in the Carrier Dome. Syracuse enters the contest on a three-game winning streak, while Georgetown is coming off a loss to Cincinnati.

JOSEPH DISPLAYS ALL-AROUND GAME
Junior Kris Joseph did a little bit of everything in Syracuse's win against Villanova. Joseph led the team with seven rebounds and dished out a season-high five assists. He also scored seven points, blocked one shot and had one steal.
Joseph is Syracuse's leading scorer this season, averaging 14.7 points per game. That total ranks 12th in the BIG EAST. He also ranks second on the team in rebounds (5.0 rpg.) and steals (40).
JARDINE ON POINT
Junior Scoop Jardine has dished out a career-high 171 assists this season in his first full year as a starter. He ranks second in the BIG EAST and 19th in the nation in assists per game (5.9). That total not only ranks among the best in the nation, but it is among the highest single-season totals in school history. Jardine currently is tied for 20th on Syracuse's single-season assists leader list. Andy Rautins also had 171 assists in 2009-10. Sherman Douglas owns the single-season school record, which he set in 1988-89 when he led the nation with 326 assists.
Jardine led the Orange with 20 points in its victory against Villanova. It marked the sixth time this season that Jardine has scored 20 or more points in a game. Jardine is Syracuse's third-leading scorer this season, averaging 12.4 points per game.
A CLOSER LOOK AT THE ORANGE
Three players scored in double figures to lead Syracuse to a 69-64 victory at Villanova on Monday, February 21. Junior Scoop Jardine recorded a team-high 20 points in front of his hometown fans.
Jardine scored seven of Syracuse's first nine points, helping the Orange erase an early deficit and take a 15-11 lead at the 8:34 mark of the first half. Syracuse led, 29-22, with one minute left on the clock, but Villanova scored the final five points of the half to cut SU's lead to 29-27 at intermission.
The Orange recorded the first six points of the second half to make it 35-29, but the Wildcats scored the next five to pull within one, 35-34. Sophomore Brandon Triche and senior Rick Jackson combined for all of Syracuse's points during a 9-2 scoring run that gave Syracuse its largest lead of the game, 47-38, with 13 minutes remaining.
Villanova fought back with its own 9-2 scoring run and trailed by two, 55-53, with 6:15 on the clock. The Orange rebuilt its lead to five before a three-pointer by Corey Stokes cut SU's advantage to 61-60 at the 2:38 mark. With 52 seconds remaining, Triche increased the Orange's lead to 65-60. Villanova pulled to within one, 65-64, with 22 second left, but freshman Dion Waiters and Jackson each sank a pair of free throws to produce the final score.
Jackson finished with 18 points and five rebounds, while Triche added 11 points and a career-high seven rebounds. Stokes led Villanova with 24 points.
SCOUTING GEORGETOWN
Georgetown enters Saturday's showdown against the Orange with an overall record of 21-7 and a mark of 10-6 in BIG EAST play. The Hoyas are the most efficient shooting team in the BIG EAST, leading the conference in field goal percentage (.489). In its last outing, Georgetown suffered a 58-46 setback to Cincinnati. Senior Austin Freeman led the Hoyas with 19 points.
Freeman leads the Hoyas in scoring, averaging 17.8 points per game. He ranks fourth in the BIG EAST in scoring. Georgetown will be without senior Chris Wright, who ranks second on the team in scoring and leads the squad in assists. Junior Jason Clark is in double digits in scoring, as well, averaging 12.0 points per game.
John Thompson III is in his seventh season as the head coach of Georgetown, his 10th overall. He has an overall record of 228-111 (.673). Prior to his stint at Georgetown, Thompson was the head coach at Princeton.
THE SERIES
Syracuse leads the all-time series against Georgetown, 45-39. In their last meeting, the Hoyas defeated the Orange, 64-56, in the Carrier Dome, earlier this month. Junior Kris Joseph led the team in scoring with 14 points.
Saturday's meeting will be the 86th meeting between the two teams. The Orange and Hoyas have played each other every year since the BIG EAST's inception in 1979.
